Quetzal – Quetzal

Quetzal’s self-titled debut CD, produced by the former Oingo Boingo bassist John Avila, was heralded as the “Sound of a new millennium” by critics and fans alike. The band is headed up by songwriter and guitarist José Quetzal Flores, who when not committing acts of rhythmic consciousness can be found leading organizing efforts for the Zapatistas of Chiapas. The band has been hailed widely for its soulful blend of genres from funk to cumbia with a dynamic instrumentation: jarana guitar, violin, bass, guitar, timbales, drums and a spectacular vocal team of Martha and Gabriel González.
